 GOVERNANCE

The Headteacher and his team of senior and middle leaders are held to account through the regular governing body meetings and governor visits to the school. A “shadow” Governing Body worked alongside the Interim Executive Body during the first half of 2021 and achieved reconstitution on 1 February 2022.

Four new committees have been established, reflecting the key priorities of the school: Quality of Education; Inclusion, Pastoral and Resources. Senior leaders attend meetings and present on their areas of oversight. There is an environment where honesty and openness prevail; governors act as critical friends, challenge and ensure leaders are held to account. For their part, senior leaders present governors with a clear and unexaggerated view of the school to enable them to make the challenging decisions that are required of them and ensure the school’s improvement journey is led by the governing body. Ensuring the data is robust and senior leaders are effectively challenged feeds into system improvement.

Introducing our Governors:

Sue Milsom Chair of Governors
I have over 25 years experience of working in a finance / School Business Management role across a wide selection of Kent schools.  I have served as a Governor for 20+ years with the last 6 years being as Vice-Chair or Chair.

When we relocated from Kent to Worcestershire in 2020, I was keen to continue to serve as a Governor as I find the work, although sometimes challenging also extremely rewarding and I feel privileged to be able to share my experience for the benefit of a school community.  I was delighted to be invited to join the Governing Body of North Bromsgrove and become part of the North Family as it continues its journey towards excellence, offering a broad first-class education to all.

Anja Potze (Vice-Chair of Governors, Safeguarding and Pastoral Governor), is the Dutch powerhouse behind Anja Potze Fine Jewellery, award-winning independent jewellers based in Worcester. Anja herself takes great pride in being one of Worcester's independent traders and has immersed herself in all things Worcestershire. In 2016 Anja became a Patron of CG5, a Worcestershire non-profit making organisation whose aim is to help as many young people or disabled participants as possible reach their full potential through inclusion in sport. In 2015, Anja started working with the students and staff at the Tudor Grange Academy, Worcester and was a governor for two years. In May 2017 her charitable work was recognised when she won the 'Heart of Gold' award in the national Small Business Awards, for her ongoing commitment and generosity to Worcester and Worcestershire causes. In October 2018 Anja took on the challenge of Chair of the Interim Executive Board, steering the governing body through a period of rapid improvement.  Anja is very proud of what has been achieved in such a short space of time and wished to stay within the North family at the time of reconstitution, currently serving as pastoral and safeguarding governor and Vice-Chair.

Gareth Morgan has worked in education for more than thirty years. He has been a headteacher in Worcestershire and currently works as a school improvement advisor for the local authority. He is passionate about schools securing the best outcomes for pupils and providing broad experiences and opportunities within the curriculum. Gareth joined the governing body of North Bromsgrove High School in July 2021 and has been impressed by the drive and vision of the leadership team in moving the school into the future.

Mark Westwood
One of the main reasons why I became school governor is to provide strategic direction for the school including being a critical friend to support the work of the school headteacher and challenge where necessary. I'm passionate about ensuring that every young person receives an excellent education, and I'd like to believe that the decisions I've made have had a positive and long-term impact. I have a great deal of business knowledge in the education sector, having worked in it for the majority of my career. I currently manage a tender’s department that focuses on improving young people's outcomes and I'm continuing to build on my experiences in order to improve my skills, pass them on to others, and have a positive impact on the students at North Bromsgrove High School

Daniel Van Cleak
Access to brilliant education is vital for people to reach their true potential. As someone who went from state schools through to getting a place on the best graduate scheme in the country, I'm aware of just how lucky I was that my schools (and sixth form) were so excellent and want to make sure others have the same opportunity. I have experience with the school system as someone with special needs, both in terms of the difficulties it can present and the support that can be offered, as well as understanding of the inequity which exists when it comes to receiving diagnoses. The act of learning is its own reward and this should be encouraged and supported no regardless of the different challenges people may face in doing so. I became a civil servant to serve the public and do what I can to make my community better. I would like to do the same more locally in the field I find most important: education.

Nicola Noble
