Mental Health and Well-being
At North Bromsgrove High School, we place a strong emphasis on mental health, emotional wellbeing and pastoral care as a core part of safeguarding. We recognise that good mental health supports learning, behaviour, attendance and long‑term life chances, and that schools play an essential role in promoting positive wellbeing.
We take a whole‑school approach to mental health and wellbeing, creating a culture where students feel safe, supported and able to talk openly about their worries. Our ethos promotes respect, inclusion and positive relationships, and we encourage students to seek help early when concerns arise. National guidance highlights that embedding wellbeing across school life is most effective when it is proactive, consistent and visible.
Our work includes:
• A calm, supportive environment that promotes emotional wellbeing
• Trained staff who can identify early signs of emotional or mental health difficulty
• Clear procedures for responding to concerns, including self‑harm or anxiety
• Access to appropriate in‑school and external support where needed
• Strong links between safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and inclusion
Mental health concerns are treated as a safeguarding priority where there is risk to a child’s safety or welfare. Staff follow clear procedures to ensure concerns are shared appropriately and acted upon in a timely and proportionate way, always placing the child’s welfare at the centre of decision‑making.
We work in partnership with parents, carers and external professionals to ensure students receive the right support at the right time. Our approach reflects current expectations that schools promote both pupil and staff wellbeing as part of an effective safeguarding culture.
