Online Safety and AI

Online Safety and AI

At North Bromsgrove High School, we are committed to keeping students safe online and supporting them to become responsible, informed and confident digital citizens. We recognise that technology, including the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), plays an increasingly significant role in young people’s lives and learning.

Our approach to online safety is proactive and underpinned by statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and the DfE’s filtering and monitoring standards. We understand that online risks can include exposure to harmful or inappropriate content, online exploitation, misinformation, extremist material, cyberbullying and the misuse of emerging technologies such as AI‑generated content and images. Schools are expected to remain vigilant to these evolving risks and ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.

We promote safe and responsible use of technology through:

Robust filtering and monitoring systems, reviewed regularly

Clear expectations for acceptable use by students and staff

Curriculum teaching that develops digital literacy, critical thinking and online resilience

• Staff training to ensure emerging online and AI‑related safeguarding risks are recognised and responded to appropriately

As AI becomes more widely accessible, we teach students to understand both its benefits and limitations, including risks such as inaccurate information, over‑reliance on technology, data privacy concerns and exposure to AI‑generated misinformation. We ensure that any AI tools used within school are carefully considered against safeguarding and data protection requirements, and that students are guided to use technology safely, ethically and appropriately.

We work closely with parents and carers to promote a consistent message about online safety and provide guidance on supporting children to stay safe in the digital world. Reputable external organisations such as CEOP, NSPCC and Childnet are signposted for further advice and support.
