Safeguarding
Safeguarding at North Bromsgrove High School
At North Bromsgrove High School, the safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expect all staff, governors, volunteers and visitors to share this responsibility.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and underpins all aspects of school life. We work proactively to create a culture where students feel safe, listened to, respected and supported, and where concerns are acted on swiftly and appropriately.
Our Safeguarding Commitment
We are committed to:
• Providing a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment for all pupils
• Protecting children from maltreatment, abuse or neglect, including online risks
• Supporting students’ mental health, emotional wellbeing and development
• Taking prompt and effective action when safeguarding concerns arise
• Working closely with families and external agencies to keep children safe
All adults working in school maintain a mindset of “it could happen here”, recognising their vital role in identifying concerns early and ensuring children receive the right support at the right time.
How We Promote a Strong Safeguarding Culture
Safeguarding at North Bromsgrove is proactive, visible and embedded in daily practice. We ensure that:
• All staff receive appropriate safeguarding training for their role
• Safeguarding policies are up to date, accessible and understood
• Students know who they can talk to if they are worried or feel unsafe
• Positive, trusting relationships underpin our pastoral and teaching approach
• Safeguarding considerations inform all policies and procedures
We recognise that some children may be more vulnerable and ensure our safeguarding arrangements are robust, reflective and responsive to need.
Reporting a Safeguarding Concern
If you are worried about the safety or wellbeing of a child, please do not keep concerns to yourself.
• Students are encouraged to speak to a trusted adult in school
• Parents/carers and visitors should contact the school immediately
• Staff follow clear internal procedures for recording and reporting concerns
Concerns should be reported to a member of the Designated Safeguarding Team (details below). In most cases, we will work openly with families; however, the child’s welfare is always paramount, and this may not always be possible.
If you believe a child is in immediate danger, please contact the police on 999.
Working with External Agencies
When necessary, we work in partnership with:
• Children’s Social Care
• The Police
• Health services
• Education safeguarding professionals
Sharing information appropriately allows concerns to be addressed at the earliest opportunity and ensures children receive the right help and protection.
Safeguarding Policies and Guidance
Our safeguarding arrangements are underpinned by statutory guidance, including:
• Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
• Working Together to Safeguard Children
• The Children Act 1989 and 2004
All safeguarding and child protection policies can be found on our Policies page.
