Rewards and Sanctions
Our CARE values are the standard we use to recognise and reward good behaviour a well as challenging poor behaviour fairly and consistently.
Through the Rewards and Sanction system, the School will endeavour to:
• Explicitly reference and live out our CARE values, providing a shared accountably and responsibility for our actions and the impact it may have on our school community.
• Enhance the pastoral provision of our students by applying our systems, underpinned by trauma informed practices, with parity so students understand the consequences of their actions.
• Encourage staff to recognise and praise good behaviour as well as addressing poor behaviour, and to ensure that sanctions, when needed, are appropriate and applied in a fair and consistent manner
• Enable students, with support if required, to reflect upon their behaviour and give all members of our North Family opportunity to repair relationships.

CARE teaching and learning model
We expect all our students to be engaged in their learning in every lesson. During every lesson we follow our CARE teaching and learning model which outlines what great learning looks like to enable students to be the best learners they can be. Learning legends are awarded by our Senior Leadership Team to those students who demonstrate how they ‘connect, adapt, respond or engage’ with their learning.
To go alongside our CARE teaching and learning model, we are reward students for their positive attitudes, work ethic and contribution to life at North in the form of our ‘Community, Aspiration, Respect and Endeavour’ rewards. Read more about our CARE Teaching and Learning model here:
Rewards
We feel it is important to celebrate individual student merits and their tutor group achievements. Students are rewarded as individuals, as part of a group or as part of their house. This contributes to our value of community and fosters a healthy sense of competition both at an individual and team level.
Examples of rewards include;
• Positive attitude to learning house points awarded by classroom teachers.
• 'Learning Legends’ - awarded by a member of the Senior Leadership Team during lessons. Students are rewarded with a sticker on the work being recognised, and house points on Arbor
• WOW ‘Work of the week’ is nominated by subject staff for an outstanding piece of work, either within the classroom or an independent learning task. A WOW postcard and house points are issued to the students, and the WOW is also celebrated on our social media platforms
• 100% weekly attendance = 3 housepoints per week issued by tutors during tutor time
• Subject staff nomination for Progress/Attainment subject recognition in our end of term celebration assemblies.
• Subject staff nominations for progress and attainment recognition in our end of term celebration assemblies
• Half termly and termly attendance tutor group celebrations
• Termly attendance through certificate nomination – gold, silver, bronze
• Praise postcards and house points
• Displaying our North CARE values rewarded with CARE postcards
• Daily House Point heroes recognised by Heads of Year
Each half term students receive the following rewards for meeting certain house point thresholds:
We also have termly House celebration assemblies led by our House lead Mrs F Smaith and our student leaders, to highlight and celebrate the achievements of our students who fully embody our CARE values.
All departments also run challenges and competitions throughout the year through which more positive points can be earned for their house.
Sanctions
Sometimes, we get it wrong, and our behaviour has an impact on those around us. Our sanctions seek to realign expectations, whilst repairing relationships and helping those at fault understand the consequence of actions. A range of sanction may be awarded including but not limited to;
- Restorative conversations as the basis of all sanctions
- Detentions of varying length, propitiate to the wrongdoing.
- Time in Refocus Isolation
- Suspensions

All communications regarding sanctions and rewards are communicated via Arbor.
