CARE Teaching and Learning Model
Teaching and Learning at North Bromsgrove High School
At North Bromsgrove High School, our approach to teaching and learning is rooted in a clear and shared whole‑school curriculum intent. We believe that every student deserves access to an ambitious, broad and balanced curriculum that is inclusive, carefully sequenced and designed to help them thrive academically, personally and socially. Our curriculum is underpinned by our core CARE values – Community, Aspiration, Respect and Endeavour and brought to life through our teaching and learning principles of Connect, Adapt, Respond and Engage, which shape every lesson, every day.
High‑quality learning starts with strong connections. Teachers connect new learning to prior knowledge, real‑world contexts and big ideas so that learning is meaningful and coherent over time. Lessons adapt to meet the needs of all learners, recognising that every student’s journey is different and that responsive teaching is key to inclusion and success. Teachers consistently respond to student understanding through effective questioning, feedback and retrieval, ensuring misconceptions are addressed and progress secured. Above all, lessons are designed to engage students actively in their learning, fostering curiosity, independence and a lifelong love of learning.
To support this clear intent, each subject has developed a Learning Journey. Learning Journeys show students, parents and staff how knowledge and skills are carefully sequenced and built over time within each subject, from key concepts to mastery. They help students understand what they are learning, why it matters and how today’s learning connects to what comes next. This ensures consistency, clarity and high expectations across the curriculum, while reducing unnecessary complexity and duplication.
Learning Journeys also support our commitment to equity and inclusion. By making progression explicit, they enable teachers to identify where students may need additional support or challenge and ensure that all learners, including those with SEND or other barriers, are able to access and succeed within the curriculum. Together with clear lesson routines and high‑quality classroom practice, our Learning Journeys help every student feel confident, supported and ambitious about their learning.
Through our shared values, clear curriculum intent and structured Learning Journeys, we are proud to offer a learning experience that prepares students not only for examinations, but for the next stage of their education and for life beyond school.
