North Welcomes Miss Chater

We are delighted to welcome Miss Chater to our North family in her role as Head of Music. As a talented musician, Miss Chater is a member of the military band The Warwickshire Fusiliers as a trumpeter; played the trumpet for the west end show ‘Phantom of the Opera’ in the 45-piece orchestra; and regularly plays with The Film Orchestra entertaining locals with the hits we all know and love! She is also a frequent talent in local Worcestershire wind bands and orchestras. As a grade 8 in trumpet, voice, electronic keyboard and music theory, with 16 years of experience in the classroom, she brings a wealth of talent to us at North Bromsgrove and we are delighted to have her on the team.

Miss Chater’s expertise has also been called upon by the Houses of Parliament which recently ran a group session to garner the views of Headteachers and Leaders within subjects over the future direction for GCSEs. As a passionate musician and leader of music, Miss Chater was well-placed to provide a valuable insight into the hopes and aspiration for music qualifications for the next generation.

At North, we offer two vocal groups – one for our new Year 9 and one for everyone else including staff. Miss Chater is also able to bring in Music Technology which is new to the school and is also a club for Years 9-13 whilst being included in the curriculum. Our live pit band is busy rehearsing for the school show of Little Shop of Horrors in January and the department is thriving!

We have more peripatetic lessons on offer this year than ever before and are partnered with Severn Arts. This year there are lessons available in drums, piano, keyboard, voice, flute, guitar and violin. If your child is in receipt of free school meals, the lessons are 50% of the cost and if they continue to study at GCSE, the lessons will be free and paid for from the pupil premium funds.
