GOVERNANCE

The Headteacher and his team of senior and middle leaders are held to account through the regular governing body meetings and governor visits to the school. A “shadow” Governing Body worked alongside the Interim Executive Body during the first half of 2021 and achieved reconstitution on 1 February 2022.

Four new committees have been established, reflecting the key priorities of the school: Quality of Education; Inclusion, Pastoral and Resources. Senior leaders attend meetings and present on their areas of oversight. There is an environment where honesty and openness prevail; governors act as critical friends, challenge and ensure leaders are held to account. For their part, senior leaders present governors with a clear and unexaggerated view of the school to enable them to make the challenging decisions that are required of them and ensure the school’s improvement journey is led by the governing body. Ensuring the data is robust and senior leaders are effectively challenged feeds into system improvement.

Introducing our Governors:

Sue Milsom - Chair of Governors

I have over 25 years experience of working in a finance / School Business Management role across a wide selection of Kent schools.  I have served as a Governor for 20+ years with the last 6 years being as Vice-Chair or Chair.  When we relocated from Kent to Worcestershire in 2020, I was keen to continue to serve as a Governor as I find the work, although sometimes challenging also extremely rewarding and I feel privileged to be able to share my experience for the benefit of a school community.  I was delighted to be invited to join the Governing Body of North Bromsgrove and become part of the North Family as it continues its journey towards excellence, offering a broad first-class education to all.

Nick Gibson is the proud Headteacher at North Bromsgrove High School having joined in September 2018. Please view his profile on North Bromsgrove High School & Sixth Form - Your Senior Leadership Team

Mark Westwood - Co-opted Governor

One of the main reasons why I became school governor is to provide strategic direction for the school including being a critical friend to support the work of the school headteacher and challenge where necessary. I'm passionate about ensuring that every young person receives an excellent education, and I'd like to believe that the decisions I've made have had a positive and long-term impact. I have a great deal of business knowledge in the education sector, having worked in it for the majority of my career. I currently manage a tender’s department that focuses on improving young people's outcomes and I'm continuing to build on my experiences in order to improve my skills, pass them on to others, and have a positive impact on the students at North Bromsgrove High School.

Nicola Noble - Staff Governor

Nicola Noble is Head of Humanities at North Bromsgrove High School.  She is a long-serving member of staff who is committed to the progress of the school and its students.  During her career, she has developed experience in many areas of the school both curriculum and pastoral and working with all key stages.  She is an enthusiastic and experienced teacher and wants to use that experience in her role as staff governor.

Aksa Khan - Parent Governor

I am a solicitor by profession and have been qualified for 20 years with experience in both the private and public sector. I am experienced in managing and leading a team and budget. I have also held numerous roles that required me to be involved in setting direction and developing policies and procedures. For the past 4 years I have held the position as a Vice Chair for a National Advisory Board offering guidance on current issues to institutions. I believe strongly in the need for nurture, development, and training of individuals in the workplace, a philosophy that applies just as well in education. A good quality high school education not only facilitates academic qualifications but should broaden horizons and inspire children to make a positive contribution to society.

Richard Shutte - Co-opted Governor

"I am a a Risk Manager for Deutsche Bank. I have watched the tremendous turnaround of the North High School under Mr Gibson and his exceptional teaching staff and as a parent, I would like to get involved to further drive the strategic vision and objectives of the school.  I would like to invest some of my time in supporting the school on its journey to obtaining an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating, which in my view can only be achieved by a collective effort of both teachers and parents, to ensure the highest possible standard of education for our children"

Alana Warburton - Co-opted Governor

"I have 6 years teaching experience within the primary sector; working both as a class teacher and on a supply basis. Prior to this I was a Teaching Assistant and then a Learning Mentor. This has given me a breadth of experience within education. I also have a keen interested in working with and supporting students with SEND having worked in a number of settings with specialist provisions for those with additional needs.  I am passionate about education; specifically ensuring that all children have the ability to achieve their full potential regardless of any barriers to learning that there may be."

Karen Hillmansen - Co-opted Governor

"I’m passionate about the value of education but my focus is on whether our children are happy and getting the most out of life. I'm delighted to be able to act as a critical friend to the SLT by holding them to account to the ambitious targets they've set themselves. My background before children was in publishing and then a whole scale change to be a stay at home mum followed by a return to work part time as Clerk to Governors and currently a school Finance and HR manager. It's nice to be on the other side of the governance fence! "

Jenny Proudman - Parent Governor

I have over 30 years’ experience working in a large law enforcement organisation. And over four years as a senior leader.  I have specialised in Public Protection for over six years and three years in Professional Standards- focussing on the conduct and standards of behaviour of employees.  I have led on internal marketing campaigns on Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Harassment. More recently, I was project lead on an internal training programme on sexual harassment and sexual abuse in the workplace, which I developed with specialist partner agencies.  I have experience in change management and budgeting programmes with focus on efficiency savings, whilst maintaining effective service delivery.  As parent governor, from a parent perspective, I have transferable skills which I can bring into the education setting around safeguarding, pastoral care, accountability, performance, service delivery, collaboration, and people management.  I am delighted to be accepted onto the Governing Body of North Bromsgrove and become part of the North Family.
