Think Tank Scientists explore DNA

Students in year 10 were provided with a fantastic opportunity at Birmingham's science museum, Think Tank, where they explored DNA.
Using micro-pipettes, they explored the DNA of different samples and compared how they responded. They also completed an experiment collecting their own DNA and then completed several steps to allow it to develop and finally see their own DNA helix formations.
We ended the day with a fascinating discussion about who had the rights to hold our DNA data and what were the benefits and pitfalls of that as a system.
Our bright, intelligent students engaged with the day and our lead at the Museum was most impressed. She said, 'This is really challenging scientific exploration and aimed at students at college. To be in year 10 and navigate with such skill and enthusiasm is fantastic'.
Well done to everyone who took part.
