An Open Evening Bursting With Pride

Open Evening marks an exciting time as it allows us to showcase the excellent work of our talented students and provides an opportunity to articulate and demonstrate our passion about the distinctive education we offer as we fulfil our motto ‘Studies Determine Character’. We know you want the best for your children’s future with the best possible care, love and guidance to prepare them to go into the world with confidence and to achieve their goals and aspirations.

Together as a staff we have set out a clear vision for our school, to be the school of choice in the local area.
Over the course of the past three years, we have witnessed many successes across our North Family as the school grows from strength to strength, with an increase in students from only 780 in 2018 to 1022 in 2022 (that is 242 students). This is indicative of the success of the school and recognition by the community of excellent educational standards achieved.
We work in close partnership with our middle schools and all subject leads work with their counterparts to discuss what has been taught and where the gaps are so we can ensure from the start of year 9, we work with pace and challenge as students start their education with us.

Open Evening 2022

Our GCSE offer has breadth and challenge for all abilities to succeed, whatever your child’s passion. From dance, photography, business studies, computing, psychology and engineering, we have a course that will suit your child and allow them to be happy and flourish in their learning. We deliver our lessons with a stable, experienced staff of specialists- all of who have been carefully selected with a pedigree of success behind them, in excellent facilities.
Year on year attainment has improved and is strong across all areas.
GCSE Achievement is above national averages, with Computer Studies, Business, Psychology, Food Technology well above. Maths and English achieved 82% 4+ and 66% at 5+. At the last count the school came 6th out of 30 schools across Worcestershire for our GCSE Maths grades.
We are identified as a centre of excellence for safeguarding. With a unique and bespoke CARE curriculum encompassing PSHE, SRE, Citizenship and British Values. We offer a family- centred approach to nurture, support and encourage all students to be successful in all areas of their schooling and the challenges that life brings.
A house system that encourages healthy competition, student leadership, community spirit and respect for diversity in our North family. With enrichment that is varied from the Young Enterprise Competition where we have won Best Group Marketing Award for Mid Worcestershire for last two years to our work experience in years 10 and 12, timetabled enrichment in 6th form with access to the EPQ qualification. We run D of E at all levels of Gold, Silver and Bronze. With Student Leadership at every level and across all years (Prefects, House Captains, Sports Captains, Subject Ambassadors) - the school develops the whole person at North.

Our Sixth Form is thriving with Year 12 numbers growing from 17 to 87 to 99 to 116 this year representing rapid growth over the last 3 years and a strong indicator that our students value the quality of teaching they have received- they WANT to stay!
We have invested in redesigning the sixth form area with a modern private study area which is intended to replicate what our students will experience at University or the world of work.
We are a happy and caring school whereby we are committed to delivering the highest standards of teaching and learning, and we are proud that our students demonstrate high standards of dress, aspirational goals, a personal vision with a sense of integrity.
We all subscribe to our school motto ‘studies determine character’ and ensure it is lived out day to day by offering a tailored academic curriculum in conjunction with an enormous range of opportunities on offer beyond the classroom. We do this in a supportive environment whereby we take the time to get to know and understand our students under our care. Simply- There is a shared moral imperative by all members of our school to deliver an inclusive education, within our state of the art facilities, which ensures that ‘everyone succeeds’.
We are a community school which is small enough to give your child a bespoke level of care in ensuring we take the time to really get to know them- their strengths- their interests- their individual character- and very importantly where we need to support so they can achieve academically.

However, it is not simply about what we offer you as students- you also have to be ready to be able to add something to our school and expect to be pushed through elevated expectations and to make the most of every second , every day.
We make no apology that we demand and insist on the highest standards- young people learn best when there are clear and consistent high expectations- standard of uniform, punctuality, the ability to demonstrate leadership as a house captain, prefect or mentor are a must. Manners, tolerance and respect are qualities our students are expected to demonstrate on a daily basis and help to make our school a privilege to work and learn in.
We encourage every student to take part in two of over twenty clubs on offer at lunchtimes and afterschool- we have one of the biggest D of E groups within Worcestershire, many successful sports teams competing at regional and national level. Drama, Dance, Musical shows and Outdoor adventure opportunities.
We are also aware that we are preparing our young people for going into a global society and feel it important to develop the international dimension, and with this in mind, we are looking forward to resuming trips to provide opportunities to see and experience cultures across the world- Trip to New York, Skiing in America, Languages trips to France and Spain to name but a few. The more you put into life at North Bromsgrove the more our students get out!
